The first ESSO website was launched in March 1999. Its design was simple and the language used was HTML. Following several changes of colour and design the website switched to version 2. The language used for certain parts was Java or Javascript, together with HTML.

To cope with the increase of information and to offer members of ESSO the best services, the website has gone through a major reshaping. The language used for the new website (version 3) is PHP. It is associated with a dababase (MySQL) allowing the creation of dynamic pages and the possibility to have dedicated pages for members only. This way, the ESSO Secretariat will manage the publication of information more easily.

ESSO has taken the opportunity of this reshaping to choose a new domain name: “.org”, which gives the website a European touch and the idea of belonging to an organisation. The new ESSO website address is thus: www.esso-surgeonline.org

The name www.esso-surgeonline.eu is also protected and redirection to www.esso-surgeonline.org is automatic.

In order to increase services to members, ESSO has developed an important communication tool: the “ESSO Info”. This monthly newsletter allows direct communication with members via e-mail with the purpose to deliver the latest and most updated information about the society, its activities and projects.

The website has a RSS flow, which allows every user to get the latest updates on its computer.
