Flims Workshop Fellowships

The Flims Workshop on Methods in Clinical Cancer Research is jointly organised by the European CanCer Organisation (ECCO), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) every year in the summer in Flims, Switzerland.

ESSO supports the participation of young surgeons to the workshop by granting every year up to 5 fellowships to the selected surgeon fellows.
ESSO awardees do not pay any registration fee and receive complimentary airline tickets and free hotel accommodation for the duration of the Workshop.

The Flims workshop consists of a one-week intensive residential training for young clinicians of all disciplines in oncology to learn the essentials of clinical trials design. During the Workshop each participant develops a concept sheet for a clinical trial protocol and, through extensive mentoring, completes the writing of the protocol before the end of the Workshop.

The Faculty includes 29 experts from Europe and the United States who are recognised for their leadership in clinical research and clinical trial design.

The workshop scientific programme consists of three types of activities to serve a variety of didactic needs:

  • Protocol development sessions during which each participant develops a concept sheet for a clinical trial protocol, and completes its writing before the end of the workshop
  • Parallel discussion group sessions on special topics.
  • Lectures on specific topics presented by experts in the field. These talks give participants a necessary overview of the design and conduct of high-quality clinical trials.
