ESSO 2008 – a first-rate Congress in cancer surgery

With an attendance of 830 participants, the 14th Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology organised from 10 to 12 September in The Hague (NL) confirmed its position as the major multidisciplinary platform for cancer surgeons in Europe. The Scientific Programme covered a wide range of generic and organ-related topics and further offered delegates from 61 different countries a wonderful platform for exchanges of experiences and know-how. The significant participation of delegates from Asiatic and American countries demonstrates the large scope of interest for the ESSO Congress outside Europe as well.

Save the dates of the next ESSO Congress that will take place in the magnificent city of Bordeaux, a listed UNESCO World Heritage site, from 15th to 17th September 2010.

In 2009, ESSO – as a member of ECCO-the European CanCer Organisation - contributes to the scientific programme of the ECCO 15 – 34th ESMO Multidisciplinary Congress (Berlin, 20-24 September).

Visit the ESSO website for regular updates.

ESSO New Executive Committee 2008-2010

On the occasion of the ESSO 2008 Congress, Professor Cornelis van de Velde (Leiden University Medical Center, NL) took over from Professor Irving Taylor the post of President of the European Society of Surgical Oncology. The General Assembly consequently elected a new President-Elect, Professor Peter Naredi, from the Umea University Hospital, Sweden. Dr. Tibor Kovacs (Glan Clwyd Hospital, North Wales, UK) was elected Treasurer. The General Assembly further elected several other new members on the Executive Committee. Read more…

The composition of the new Executive Committee demonstrates a willingness to strengthen co-operation with the national societies in (cancer) surgery and to foster young cancer surgeons’ participation in the activities and decision-making of the society.
