Pre-ESSO Congress Advanced Course on Rectal Cancer
8-10 September 2008, The Hague, The Netherlands
Applications accepted till Friday 4th July
The European Society of Surgical Oncology and the European School of Oncology offer a unique educational opportunity just prior to the ESSO 2008 Congress. Participants will enjoy two and a half day experts lectures and interactive group discussions aimed at resolving clinical challenges and the critical questions in rectal cancer surgery.
The course is open to senior residents in their last two years of training and to junior surgeons within five years after boarding. Successful applicants will be offered free registration to the course and free accommodation.

Examination in Surgical Oncology, 10 September 2008, The Hague (NL)
Seize the chance to test and assess your level of knowledge in surgical oncology by taking the EBSQ examination proposed by the European Board of Surgery of the UEMS and the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO). Few opportunities are left for the 2008 examination organised during the ESSO Congress in The Hague. Successful candidates will receive the EBSQ certificate, which demonstrates evidence of continuing education and update of professional skills.

Teaching Course on the Multidisciplinary treatment of lung cancer
6 – 8 November, Vilamoura, Portugal
Jointly organised by ESTRO, ESMO, EACTS, ESTS and ESSO, this interactive course aims at promoting an integrated approach to the diagnosis and management of lung cancer. The programme will outline the different treatments of lung cancer from evidence based medicine to on-going research.

ESSO training fellowships
To help young surgeons under 40 developing their clinical and research experience, ESSO Education and Training Committee offers each year up to 10 fellowships to visit a European institution or cancer center for a duration of 1 to 3 months (standard fellowships) or 3 to 12 months (major fellowship).
Fellowships are competitive and applications must be submitted before 31st August.

ECCO launches its e-learning programme
ECCO-the European CanCer Organisation recently launched a new exciting e-learning experience providing home learning and online continuing education courses to all oncology professionals.
The first series of e-seminars are themed around metastases and opens with specialists updates on the management of liver metastases.
