ESSO 2008 Congress

The 14th Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) proposes an outstanding three-day programme with prestigious and authoritative international guest lecturers. The programme includes central generic topics such as follow-up, the volume/outcome debate, dealing with a complete response and important organ-related topics, for example breast, colorectal, gastric, melanoma, sarcoma, etc.

The Dutch Surgical Society (NVCO) and the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO) are closely involved in the 2008 ESSO Congress.

Pre-Congress Advanced Course on Rectal Cancer

8-10 September 2008, The Hague, The Netherlands

Intended for junior surgeons and senior residents this new joint initiative from the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and the European School of Oncology (ESO) offers a multidisciplinary approach of the treatment of rectal cancer through plenary lectures, workshops and discussions with experts.

Successful applicants will be granted free registration and accommodation.

EBSQ examination, 10 September 2008, The Hague (NL)

Organised jointly by the European Board of Surgery of the UEMS and the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) the EBSQ examination aims at assessing the knowledge and qualifications of surgical oncologists acquired through continuing professional development.

The EBSQ examination is open to all surgical oncologists trained in Europe.

ESSO training fellowships

The European Society of Surgical Oncology encourages young oncology surgeons to expand their knowledge and gain experience by offering training grants to visit a specialist center relevant to their field of interest.

The major fellowship (value 10,000 EUR) is intended to support a training of 3 to 12 months whereas the standard fellowships (2,500 EUR) are offered for a short period of training (typically 1 month).
