ESSO 2008 Congress

10-12 September 2008, The Hague, The Netherlands

The 14th Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) will take place this summer in the delightful city of The Hague. The opening keynote lecture on emerging technologies in surgical oncology will inaugurate a three-day cutting-edge scientific programme on key topics such as multidisciplinary approach - gastric cancer, relevance of sentinel node biopsy, update on imaging for the surgeon, targeted treatment of sarcoma, surgery for neuroendocrine tumours, colorectal cancer, evidence-based management of colorectal liver metastases, update on management of melanoma, optimising local treatment for early breast cancer, management of peritoneal disease, colorectal cancer with synchronous liver metastases: what order of treatment?, breast cancer in the young, volume and outcome controversy. A joint ESSO/SSO Symposium will extend education across continents by joining eminent leaders from in/outside Europe.

Pre-Congress Advanced Course on Rectal Cancer

8-10 September 2008, The Hague, The Netherlands

Preceding immediately the ESSO 2008 Congress, the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and the European School of Oncology (ESO) are jointly organising an advanced course on Rectal Cancer. Aimed at senior residents in their last two years of training or junior surgeons within five years after boarding, this intensive course will give a multidisciplinary approach of the treatment of rectal cancer. The programme consists of plenary lectures, workshops and group discussions about clinical problems.

Elective Course in Oncology for Medical Students
4 – 15 August 2008, Poznan (PL)

ECCO-the European CanCer Organisation is organising this summer the 4th elective course for medical students in the lovely city of Poznan. With the aim to stimulate medical students to specialize in one of the oncology disciplines, this intensive course incorporates plenary sessions, case studies presentations, a visit of different oncology departments and the development of projects in groups for presentation at the end of the course.
 
Introduction to surgical oncology will be done by ESSO Education and Training Committee members, Prof. Marjut Leidenius (Helsinki University Central Hospital) and Prof. Beate Rau (Charite Berlin) and ESSO Board member, Prof. Peter Naredi (University Hospital Umea, SE).

Participation is per competitive application. Successful candidates will be offered free registration, free accommodation in a students’ home and a travel grant.

EBSQ examination, 10 September 2008, The Hague (NL)

Take the opportunity of the 2008 ESSO Congress to take the examination in surgical oncology organised jointly by the European Board of Surgery of the UEMS and the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO).
