Teaching Course on Evidence and Research in Rectal Cancer
27 – 29 April 2008, Rome, Italy
Jointly organised by ESTRO, ESSO and ESMO, this true multidisciplinary course aims at promoting an integrated approach between all specialists involved in rectal cancer to tailor the best treatment for each individual patient. With combination of lectures, case discussions in small groups and debates, the programme will focus on the advantages of the different treatments for the various presentations of disease and future research in rectal cancer.
Three oncology surgeons with specific expertise in rectal cancer are amongst the teachers: Prof. C. Van De Velde (NL), Prof. L. Pahlman (SE) and Prof. Z. Krivokapic (SE).

Flims Worshop on Methods in Clinical Cancer Research
21st - 27th June 2008, Flims, Switzerland
The European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) is pleased to support the participation of young surgeons in the 10th ECCO-AACR-ASCO Workshop on Methods in Clinical Cancer Research with up to 7 fellowships.
This one-week intensive residential training offers a unique opportunity for young oncology surgeons to learn the essentials of clinical trials and be in direct contact with experts in this specific area.
Interested young surgeons are invited to submit their application online from the ECCO website. The deadline for receipt of applications is 15 February 2008.
Successful candidates will get free registration and accommodation and will receive a travel grant for participation in the workshop.

2007 European Oncological Disease Report
The eBook version of European Oncological Disease 2007- Issue 1, a digital recreation of the print publication ESSO has contributed to with an article from Prof. Peter Naredi (Umea University, SE) on specialist education and training in surgical oncology is now available.
