EBCC 6 – ESSO Workshop on Surgical Principles in Oncoplastic Surgery
15th April 2008, Berlin
The European Society of Surgical Oncology will organise on 15th April 2008, during the 6th European Breast Cancer Conference (15 – 19 April 2008, Berlin), a specific ESSO workshop on Surgical Principles in Oncoplastic Surgery.
The workshop will address the evolution and impact of oncoplastic techniques in breast cancer treatment, the training in oncoplastic surgery, the sparing mastectomies, the oncoplastic timing in breast cancer conservative treatment, reconstruction and RT, microsurgery and lipofilling in breast reconstruction. Advanced Course on Improving Clinical Skills in Early Breast Cancer
23 – 25 May 2008, Ljubljana, Slovenia
In 2008, the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and the European School of Oncology (ESO) are launching a three days, advanced intensive residential course on “Improving clinical skills in early breast cancer" as a joint venture. The challenge of the programme is to facilitate the creation of a group of European-minded senologists: young breast surgeons who will be specifically and almost exclusively dedicated to breast cancer.
Participation is based on competitive applications. Free registration and accommodation will be offered to successful candidates.

Teaching Course on Evidence and Research in Rectal Cancer
27 – 29 April 2008, Rome, Italy
This three-day course, jointly organised by ESTRO, ESSO and ESMO aims at promoting an integrated approach between all specialists involved in rectal cancer to tailor the best treatment for each individual patient. With combination of lectures, case discussions in small groups and debates, the course will offer a true multidisciplinary programme, focussing on the advantages of the different treatments for the different presentations of disease and ongoing and future research in rectal cancer.
Teachers include three oncology surgeons with specific expertise in rectal cancer: Prof. C. Van De Velde (NL), Prof. L. Pahlman (SE) and Prof. Z. Krivokapic (SE).

ESSO 2007 Travel Fellowships granted
The European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) Education & Training Committee has awarded its 2007 travel fellowships. The major fellowship of 10.000 euros has been granted to Dr. Robert Rosenberg (DE) to visit the Cleveland Clinic Florida to improve his clinical knowledge in laparoscopic and open colorectal cancer surgery. In addition, 10 standard fellowships of 2.500 euros each were granted to young surgeons from 10 different countries.
